Behavioral Health Professional Training & Certificate Program

Woodfords Family Services administers the Behavioral Health Professional Training & Certificate Program for the State of Maine.

BHP training and certification is required for direct care providers working in Children’s Behavioral Health Services in the school, residential, or home/community setting, in programs receiving MaineCare reimbursement for section 28 RCS, 28 RCS Specialized, 97 Children’s Residential, and 65 HCT or Day Treatment Services. Additional requirements for BHP certification include current Child & Adult CPR/First Aid certification and completion of an OSHA compliant Bloodborne Pathogens training.

To be eligible to take the BHP course, individuals must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Proof of education is required. Additional education requirements must be met to be eligible to provide MaineCare Section 65 services.

The BHP training is offered in two formats:

  1. In-person, instructor-led 35 hour BHP Training.
  2. Blended learning course (online with instructor-led Live Day session).

Online BHP Module 1 Training

The BHP Module 1 Training is available online to DHHS Approved Provider Agency and School staff at no charge. Certified BHP Instructors and approved Agency/School Representatives may register staff for the BHP Module 1 Online Training by signing in to the Secure Portal and completing the electronic Add A Learner Online ETED form.

Agencies and School programs may request access by emailing the BHP Training Program at bhp@woodfords.org. Please include the name of the agency/school representative (typically an administrative or HR staff), contact information (work phone number and email address), and job title.

Blended Learning Curriculum

The Blended BHP Learning course consists of 12 on-demand online modules, including pre/post-tests, and a Live Day session (7 hours) with a Certified BHP Instructor. This Blended BHP Training is available to all Provider agencies/schools at no cost.

To be eligible for certification, individuals must complete an annual OSHA compliant Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP) training and have current Child & Adult CPR/First Aid certification. Online BBP training is accepted. However, online-only CPR/First Aid is not valid for this requirement. Only instructor-led or blended learning (online w/ instructor-led skills testing) Child & Adult CPR/First Aid training is valid for BHP certification.

BHP Certificates will be effective on the date that individuals successfully complete all certification requirements as follows:

  1. Completed Blended BHP Training, which includes 12 on-demand online modules and 7 hours of live instruction with a Certified BHP Instructor (staff must complete all 12 online modules in order to be eligible to attend the live day)
  2. Completed online course evaluation (made available after attendance at the live day)
  3. Completed Child & Adult CPR/First Aid certification
  4. Completed annual OSHA compliant Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP) training
